Turkey Scarlet's journey is nothing short of remarkable. This sweet golden retriever started her life overseas and found her way to Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue, where she was given a second chance.
After battling a minor infection, Turkey Scarlet was adopted into a loving home. But her story took a turn when the infection reappeared. She was sent to the expert care at NC State Vet School, where the unimaginable was revealed—Turkey Scarlet had cancer.
Her fight was far from over. With determination and the unwavering support of her rescue family, Turkey Scarlet endured 8 sessions of chemotherapy. And guess what? She won! Turkey Scarlet is now cancer-free, a true warrior and a beacon of hope for every rescue dog.
The cost of saving her life was $7,000, a steep price but one worth every single penny. Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue made it possible because every dog deserves a chance at life. Now, they need our help to continue saving dogs like Turkey Scarlet.
You can be part of their story. Donate today to Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue and help us give more dogs like Turkey Scarlet a fighting chance. Every dollar counts!

Bates was turned in as a stray, we later discovered the heartbreaking truth: his owner had abandoned him. To make matters worse, Bates came to us with a large open wound on his shoulder—too old to suture—and symptoms that led to a diagnosis of Cushing's disease.
But Bates didn’t give up, and neither did we. With love, expert care, and over $3,000 in medical expenses, Bates healed and transformed into the happy, healthy dog he was meant to be. His story has the happiest ending: Bates has found a forever home with a family who loves him unconditionally.
We couldn’t have done this without generous supporters like you. Every dollar counts and goes directly to helping dogs like Bates who deserve a second chance.

Kristen was found in a field she was turned into a shelter with a badly fractured femur. Because she was picked up over a Holiday weekend it would take over a week for her to move to rescue. Sadly, there was no choice but amputation to relieve her pain. But her battle didn’t stop there.
After surgery, Kristen developed a serious infection that sent her to the emergency vet for a surgical revision. Through it all, her resilience shone through. Now a proud “tripod,” Kristen has adjusted beautifully and found the forever home she deserves.
The cost of Kristen’s care totaled over $4,000, but every penny was worth it to save this incredible pup. At Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue, we believe every dog deserves a chance at a happy, healthy life—but we can’t do it without your support.

Joel was left without food or water for nearly a month, Joel was found severely emaciated and fighting for survival. His journey has been heartbreaking, but we’re determined to give him a second chance.
Joel’s health is critical. He suffered two seizures within 24 hours and is dealing with significant neurological issues. For the past two days, Joel has been at an emergency vet hospital where doctors worked tirelessly to stabilize him. Despite their efforts, his condition remains fragile, and the next steps are crucial.
Today, Joel was urgently transferred to NCSU Veterinary School, where specialists are conducting detailed diagnostics to determine the extent of the damage caused by his prolonged neglect. Tragically, Joel may also have a foreign body in his digestive system that could require surgery—a life-saving but expensive procedure.
Here’s where you come in...Joel’s care so far has already cost thousands of dollars, and his ongoing treatments, advanced diagnostics, potential surgery, and recovery will push the total much higher. We’re aiming to raise $10,000 to cover his medical bills and give him the fighting chance he deserves. Every single dollar will go toward his care, and no contribution is too small.
Joel is more than just a dog—he’s a symbol of resilience, hope, and the incredible things we can achieve when we come together. Despite all he’s been through, Joel’s spirit is still there, fighting to survive and feel the love he’s been denied for so long.
Let’s rally for Joel and show him what love, kindness, and second chances can do. Together, we can make his miracle happen.
