Meet Rena! This beautiful red girl is the sweetest snuggle bug you ever did see. Rena came to NRGRR through life-changing circumstances, and we were more than happy to step in and help her find her next adventure — and hopefully her forever home!

Rena is a classic “field” golden retriever with a gorgeous deep red coat and a slender, athletic build. You might not guess that this petite-looking girl weighs a whopping 80 pounds, but her stunning copper penny coloring certainly makes her stand out from the crowd!

Like many field goldens, Rena LOVES to play fetch. The second she realizes it’s time to head outside for some tennis-ball fun, she does the cutest little dance and is ready to chase! Once fetch time is over, though, Rena has been known to decide that the tennis ball itself is her next chew toy, so a little supervision after playtime is definitely recommended.

Rena also loves going for walks and is a dream on leash. She happily struts down the street, taking in all the sights and smells along the way. She wears the biggest smile on her face and will occasionally stop when she spots someone, just in case they might be interested in saying hello. And when Rena needs to take care of business, she’ll make it very clear — she stops dead in her tracks, so you’d better have that poop bag ready!

When she’s not walking or chasing a ball, Rena is perfectly content curled up beside her foster mom on the couch. In fact, cuddling may be her true calling. She is an expert snuggler and loves nothing more than settling in for some pets and quiet time. She’ll happily enjoy a chew toy or lick mat on her bed, but given the choice, she’ll take the couch every time.

Rena loves toys of all kinds, although her enthusiasm can be a little rough on them — especially plush toys! Tough toys and dog-safe chews are definitely a must in her home. She is also a big fan of a good pupsicle, which can keep her happily occupied for quite a while.

At bedtime, Rena would very much like to be right next to you on the bed. Did we mention she’s a great snuggler?  If sharing the bed isn’t your preference, we believe Rena could learn to sleep comfortably in a crate or on a dog bed nearby. But if you’re looking for a furry cuddle bear to keep you warm at night, Rena is your girl!

Despite her field-golden looks, Rena is actually a bit more reserved than you might expect. She can be timid when meeting new people and isn’t the overly exuberant, bouncing-off-the-walls type. She’s a mellow girl who likes to take her time getting comfortable. Once she does, though, she’ll be right there beside you — or, more likely, in your lap looking for snuggles!

Rena is also very adaptable to different schedules. Her foster mom works from home a couple of days a week, and when she’s away, Rena happily settles into her crate. She gets a midday break during the workday and does very well with the routine.

Rena currently has a foster sibling who desperately wants to play with her. Rena’s response? She mostly ignores him and happily does her own thing. She has not yet been cat tested or kid tested, but based on her sweet, mellow temperament, we believe she could potentially do well with both.

Rena would be a wonderful addition to many different types of homes. She’s happy to go for a walk, chase a ball, explore the neighborhood, or simply spend the afternoon curled up beside her favorite person.

Maybe Rena isn’t just looking for someone to give her a forever home. Maybe she’s looking for the person who needs her, too. The person who could use a little more love, a little more comfort, and a whole lot more golden happiness in their life. She just might be the girl who comes into your life and quietly helps heal your soul — one cuddle, one walk, and one tennis ball at a time.
