Meet Owen – Your Adventure Buddy, Snuggle Partner, and Built-In Comedy Relief

Owen is a one-of-a-kind hound mix (Bluetick Coonhound, German Shepherd, and Great Pyrenees) who has been waiting far too long for someone to see how special he really is. This boy is affectionate, smart, goofy in all the best ways, and absolutely lights up when he’s with his people or out exploring the world.

Why You’ll Love Owen

* Affectionate + people-oriented = He’s the dog who leans in for hugs and curls up next to you at the end of the day.

* Great in public – His foster calls him the “Walmart Greeter” because he loves outings and meeting new people, he’s great in the car.

* Dog-friendly is his super power – Owen plays beautifully with other dogs and would love a canine friend.

* Fun to train – He’s smart and food-motivated, making him engaging and rewarding to work with.

* Well-trained at home – Fully house-trained, crate-trained, knows all basic commands, and can be left out on the couch overnight without issue.

* Enjoys toys, enrichment, and mental challenges – A great match for an adopter who likes interacting, teaching tricks, and keeping a bright mind busy.

* Sweet + exuberant – He brings joy and fun and laughter into your life.

Who Owen Is Perfect For

Owen would thrive with:

* Adults who enjoy training, structure, and enrichment

* A home with another playful dog (they will give each other exercise and make your life easier!)

* Someone who wants a dog for outings, hikes, brewery trips, and adventures

* A person or couple who appreciates a dog with personality and brains

* A home willing to follow simple resource-guarding guidelines (his foster will teach you everything)

Behavioral and Medical Needs

Owen does have a few needs, but they are clear, supported, and easily managed.

  1. Resource guarding. Owen can guard objects he steals, especially if it’s food or a food wrapper. He has a known, workable management plan and has successfully mastered alternative behavior including trading for high-value rewards, drop it and leave it. He currently eats in his crate. With most dogs he can have toys or chews around, but with other dogs who also guard, toys need to be picked up.

  2. Leg injury as a puppy. This old injury healed well as the vet said it would but Owen does have a slightly gimpy gait. He’s in no discomfort, needs no pain medication, runs and plays and jumps normally. If a future surgery were needed, NRGRR would cover that cost.

Why He Hasn’t Been Adopted (and Why That Shouldn’t Scare You)

Owen’s needs have caused some adopters to hesitate, but his foster family and many friends in the rescue know the truth:
He is a genuinely wonderful dog with clear boundaries, great training, and a huge heart.
He simply needs a home that appreciates a smart dog, follows simple structure, and doesn’t have young kids. Dogs like Owen often get overlooked, but the families who adopt them always say the same thing:
“We can’t believe no one took a chance on him sooner.”

What You Get in Return

A joyful, loyal companion who is as excited to explore the world as he is to snuggle on the couch.
A dog who will make you laugh daily with his exuberance and charm.
A partner who will bond deeply and bring so much life and energy into your home.

Owen has been waiting over a year for someone to see what an incredible dog he is. If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate companion with tons of personality, this boy is ready to meet you. Let’s find Owen the home he deserves.
