Albania Marco is an international dog and will incur the international dog adoption fee.

Marco came to our NRGRR family all the way from Albania over the summer, not knowing any English. 😊 Now he knows at least one important word – his name! Admittedly, he’s still trying to comprehend “sit” and “stay” but we are confident he’ll grasp them one day.  We were warned that he might bark a bit, but we’ve rarely heard him make a peep.

One of our favorite things about Marco is that he looks a little fierce with his scars but he is actually an absolute sweetheart. He always makes a beeline for kids he spots on our neighborhood walks, hoping for some of their attention. And he absolutely adores our three teenagers. He’s a dream on a leash, especially given that he came from the rough streets of Albania. Once he was medically cleared to handle more exercise, we took him on a two-mile hilly walk and he did very well. He can be trusted outside of a crate at home, although he willingly sleeps in a crate at night. He doesn’t need endless activity - mainly just wants a soft spot to lay down and snooze. But when it’s time for dinner or a treat, he will do charming little tippy tap dance in front of us. He’s big on smiling at his people.

When Marco first came to us, he did “mark” a few times in the house, but that seems to have gone by the wayside. He may have to be reminded of his manners when he goes to a new house, especially if you have a potted plant inside. Those are understandably very confusing for a dog! 

Marco mainly gives our cats the side-eye, which they wholly deserve. This mellow boy is sweet with our resident (calm) dog, but is not terribly interested in participating in the antics of puppies. He will firmly put them in their place if they pounce on him.

We are looking for a cozy home for Marco where he can spend his days being showered with affection and taken for amusing neighborhood walks.  He would probably be happiest in a home where there are people around or other calm dogs most of the time.
