Do you need another shadow? How about an 80lb weighted blanket? If so, I’m the dog for you!

My name is Luther and I’m nine years young. The main thing you need to know about me is that I LOVE people. I want to be near my people all the time. If they’re sitting down, I’m usually on top of them. Within petting distance at the very least! I was an outdoor dog in my previous life, so I need to make up for that by soaking up all the love I can.

I would really like my forever family to have someone who can be home with me a lot of the time. My foster mom works from home, which I love! I get very stressed when crated or confined (probably because I can’t get to my people!), but I’m trustworthy when given free range of the house. When I first arrived at my foster home I had pretty bad separation anxiety. But my foster mom has worked hard to reassure me and now I can be home by myself for several hours at a time. I’m still excited when my people come home though!

My foster family has a senior golden retriever and I’ve met some other dogs during my time with them. After a proper introduction, I have been a perfect gentleman with all of them. While I don’t mind other dogs, I don’t love sharing attention with them and I can get kind of pushy when another dog is being pet and I’m not. I think I would love a home where I could be the only dog for you to love on! I haven’t met any cats during my time as a foster, but when I’ve seen one at the vet or visiting friends, I have been only mildly interested.

My foster family also has preschool age kids. They are fun to play with and I love getting attention and cuddling with them; however, I get anxious when they are crying or extra rambunctious, so I might like a home with older children.

I didn’t know a lot of commands when I arrived to my foster family, but I was fully housebroken and haven’t had any accidents! They have taught me my name, sit, lay down, and to take treats nicely. We’re working on my recall (especially when I’m on a scent!), so I need to keep practicing. A fenced yard would be fun because I love sniffing around, but as long as my family keeps helping me with my recall, I don’t need one. I also get VERY excited on walks and pull on my leash, but I’m working on that too. It’s a lot to learn! But my foster mom says I’m super smart and catch on quickly.

I take a daily medication to help with my anxiety, but I’m a very good boy and have no problems when it’s wrapped in a yummy treat. I am a little on the older side, so I do spend a lot of time napping near (or on!) my foster mom, but I also love chasing tennis balls and chewing on my bones. The couch is my very favorite place to chew on my toys! At night I sleep on a blanket near my foster mom’s bed.

My foster mom says I’m a true golden - silly, lovable, cuddly, gentle, and goofy. Will you help fill my golden years with love?
