Galen
Age: 7.5 yr
Weight: 94 lb
Meet Galen! Galen is a well-socialized retired breeding dog ready to find his forever home.
Galen is a typical golden retriever in many ways: he is a velcro dog, loves his toys, and loves to be around people. However, he is a whopping 94lbs which is not typical for a golden. Galen is the epitome of a gentle giant. He slowly follows you around the house and lays down in your lap when it’s time to relax. Wanting a weighted blanket for the winter? Galen is your guy!
He LOVES walking. He gets so excited when his foster mom grabs the leash because he knows he’s going somewhere fun! He does great on a leash and loves to see the world around him. He’s still working up his endurance so shorter walks are best to begin with. He currently does 2 short walks a day. He also prefers the privacy of a back yard to go potty so a fenced backyard is preferred.
Galen also loves to be social. He enjoys venturing out to breweries and other dog-friendly social establishments with friends but he is highly food motivated and can get a little territorial in public when food and other dogs are present. So he may not be up for dog friendly restaurants quite yet. Otherwise, he is great around strange dogs and meeting new people!
After living on a farm, Galen is new to living indoors and non-carpeted flooring can be a problem as he will slip and slide trying to keep up with you. Though he is gentle, older children who won’t get knocked over would be important for him. He does tolerate grippy socks or boots on his back legs to help him not slip and slide on the floor.
While the foster is away, he does well to go into his crate and he sleeps on his own bed in the bedroom at night.
Recently retired from breeding, Galen spent all of his life around other dogs on a farm. However, Galen would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time and ready to make him the center of attention! What a great way to retire!
