Copper
Age: 7 yr
Weight: 75 lb
Copper is a 7-year-old golden mix who's looking for a human to dote on. Copper is incredibly well behaved at home, and when left alone he can be trusted to only play with his actual toys.
When you get home from work, after he's had a chance to go outside, he wants VERY much for you to play with him. Copper is a pro at tug of war and will proudly bring you his rope when he's ready to play. Tired and don't feel like a two-player game with him? That's fine too, he'll be okay if you sit next to him while he plays with his favorite toy.
Time for bed also means cuddle time. If you allow him in bed with you, he will stay next to you all night long. Copper wants to be the only child to monopolize your affection and cuddle time.
Copper is food motivated and is excited by treats, but he will work hard to control himself in order to earn the treat. He is a very smart boy and understands a lot of words. He knows how to communicate his needs to you, be it time for a walk, if he's hungry for dinner, or if he just needs some play time.
Outdoor time means walks, and walks mean a chance to grab a stick to chew on. If you hear a siren while out walking, Copper may serenade you as he sings along. He walks well while on leash, but should he become distracted, he is easily redirected to bring his attention back to you. Copper is reactive on a leash if he gets too close to other dogs, so no sidewalk greetings with passing dogs. Going to dog parks is not recommended as he can be protective of his space or his person.
Copper needs to be the only pet in an adult-only home. He doesn't like sharing his space or people with other animals or small kids.
Copper takes daily medication for back pain which he happily takes when it's put in peanut butter in his meals. Therefore, a home with minimal stairs would be best. The medication works great to manage his condition! This special boy is ready for a home where he can be your loyal sidekick, adventure buddy and best friend. Could that home be yours?
