Bryan
Bryan remains a distinctive and emotionally supportive presence in our lives with his calm personality and other traits that seem to have been specifically bred for our enjoyment and convenience. He still crosses his front paws when lying down, as if relaxing in the smoking room of a country club. His disposition is so pleasant that he doesn't bark unless he encounters a cat or a rabbit close by. He's a playful creature who always enjoys meeting other dogs, so it's difficult to get him to leave the new dog park in North Raleigh, where other owners often remark about how beautiful he is. In terms of his various functions, he's almost as clean and cooperative as a cat, preferring to do his business off the beaten trail in a secluded area, then often attempting to cover it up. Bryan, who's now about 5 years old, is something of a canine detective who loves to snoof and sniff for evidence of other beings that have been about. We have tried to give him his space as a dog, willing to deal with the occasional inconveniences of his lack of trainings, because his disposition is generally so sweet and cooperative that we just didn't feel the need for it. In short, he's just a great dog. Thanks again for sending him our way.

Cody/Jack My husband and I adopted a Golden Retriever from the NRGRR. We were very impressed with your organization, and can't even express how happy and content we are with our dog. His name was Cody (we changed it to Jack). He is such a sweet and loving dog!!!

Hailey/Bailey
Headley/Rex He was Headley/Rex, but he has just been Rex Barker since the day he came to live with us. Sometimes I call Rex "Mr Barker" when we're out and so now the kids do too!!! He prefers to use his formal name at times.

KC KC first came into our lives in 2001 as a patient of my veterinarian brother, Brian. While not sure whether or not this golden, abandoned and in really poor shape, could actually be saved, Brian requested help from the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue. The NRGRR kindheartedly replied, "go ahead, fix him up." While under the care of a loving foster family, KC was treated for a multitude of maladies over the next few months. And Brian soon found himself counted amongst the many, many people that would fall in love with the little guy. Further, he knew that KC would be a great companion for me. I met KC at the hospital one Friday afternoon. Greeting me with his signature smile and a tail full of wags, he seemed completely unaware that he should have been ailing from his recent treatments. I instantly fell in love with this beautiful, cheerful little guy. With his long, curly hair about the ears and an almost tangible aura of kindness, I knew KC would be a great dog. As a result of harsh heartworm treatments, though, KC was pretty inactive for the next few weeks. I now reluctantly admit my fear that he might've been a "dud"--on the contrary, KC, through our next five years together, proved himself to be the most special animal I have ever known. Always ready for a jog in the woods, a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood, or a simple scratch on his head or chin, KC was relentlessly and unconditionally eager to please. KC would accompany me, without complaint, on trips to Florida, Louisiana, D.C., the mountains, the coast, and even to my office late at night. He never really did get into the work, of course, but he seemed to love sitting at my feet beneath the desk. An unending source of joy and constancy in my life, KC will forever be irreplaceable in my heart. On July 22, 2005, we lost our little KC. Thanks to the kindness of the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue, I experienced 5 wonderful years with KC. Life is just not the same without him joyfully bounding towards you or nudging your hand, begging for a scratch. So many will miss the little brown bandit, and we all doubt we'll ever meet a kinder, warmer soul. Thank you NRGRR for helping KC to be a part of my life.

Kennedy Crystal and I adopted "Kennedy" from you November 7, 2001. I revisited your website for the first time, in a long time and noticed you had pictures of the adoptees. I sent you two pictures of Dawson (Kennedy). One is affectionately called "The Nose" the other picture is of the Dawson and our cat Julius. Unfortunately, after 13 years Julius recently passed away, and although the cat didn't always enjoy Dawson's company, they got along great. We recently adopted a new kitten named Heidi. Let me just say Dawson has a very large tongue, in fact is it bigger than Heidi! He just loves to help out by bathing the kitten.Although, she doesn't seem quite so appreciative. Thanks again for your great service.
