2nd Annual Golden on the Green Charity Golf Tournament

Our 1st Annual Golden on the Green Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, September 21st at Woodlake Resort and Golf Club in Vass, NC.

24 teams participated. The golfers came from all over the state and also came from Virginia, Florida, Michigan and Arizona.

There were a few Golden Retrievers there to cheer on the golfers. Some of them were previous foster dogs, and some were foster dogs still looking for a home. Wagner, who is 12 years old, found his forever home while at the tournament. A couple saw him there and fell in love. Wagner now lives at Woodlake! Holly, a 5 year old, was also looking for a home. She had a great time riding in the golf cart.

Registration began at 10 am. The driving range was open and there was a golf instructor there to help with last minute adjustments.

The shotgun start was around noon. There were many fun contests, including three Closest to the Pin contests and a Longest Drive contest. Every par 3 had a Hole in One prize. The biggest prize was a Buick, sponsored by Principal Financial Group. On holes 8 and 17, you could win balls if you landed on the green. On hole 12, if you landed on the green you qualified for the $10,000 Putting Contest sponsored by Brenda Holden of Fonville Morisey.

On hole 4, there was a special 50/50 Circle contest. There were three circles drawn around the green, and you would share the pot of money raised on that hole, depending on which circle you landed in. The only guy to land in the inner circle paid for his friend to play instead of himself. Debbie Elliott was the only one in the middle circle. John Jamison and Wayne Parham were in the outer circle.

After the tournament, all of the qualified golfers putted-off to see who would putt for $10,000. John Gaddy was the lucky golfer. Although he missed the putt, he still won some greens fees for Briar Creek.

John Gaddy also won two Closest to the Pin prizes. Mark Riley won a Closest to the Pin and the Longest Drive contest (a truely well-rounded golfer).

The team from Family First Mortgage and Sanford Real Estate took first place with a score of 12 under par. Brantley Wells, John Gaddy and Thor Henriksen took second place. Bobby Godding, Matt Mercurio, Guy Lewis and Michael Lewis took third. The last place team, who shall have their identities protected, won golf lessons from David Britt at Basic Golf.

There were many other prizes and raffles. Lynda Loveland won the Golf Ball Guess. She only missed the total number of golf balls in the aquarium by 10. John Marriott won the raffle for early registrations. We want to thank all of our sponsors who enabled us to give away such great prizes!
