Golden Gait

The Golden Retriever fun walk
Join other Golden Retrievers and their friends for a fun, relaxing walk in one of our neighborhood parks. Golden Gait is sponsored by Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue and is open to anyone who wants to learn more about NRGRR, hang out with other Golden Retrievers or simply enjoy a walk in the woods. Check out the schedule below and join the pack!

What to bring?
A leash. All dogs will be on leashes.
Water for yourself and your dog.
Bags to clean up after your dog.
Supportive shoes.

What about the weather?
As long as the weather is suitable for the pups, the walk will be on. Heavy rain, lightning or extreme temperatures will cause the walk to be cancelled. We aim to update this page at least one hour before the scheduled start time if the walk will be cancelled.

Golden Walk of Love
Instead of a Have a Heart Party this year, we are going to get some exercise! Join the Golden Walk of Love!

Umstead State Park, Old Reedy Creek Road Entrance (off Weston Parkway in Cary)
Meet in the parking area marked with the green paw print by 1:30 pm. If you would like to let your dog swim in Lake Crabtree before the walk, plan on arriving a few minutes prior to the walk start time. The NRGRR banner will be displayed at our meeting place in the parking area, or just look for the group of Goldens down at the lake. We'll walk to the Airport Overlook, take a little break and then continue on to the intersection with the Company Mill Trail where we'll turn around and go back.

Trail difficulty: Easy (flat with fine gravel/sand)
Time: Approximately 2 hours
Distance: Approximately 4 miles

Driving directions from Exit 287 (Harrison Avenue) and I-40
- Take Exit 287 and turn south onto Harrison Avenue toward Cary. (DO NOT FOLLOW THE SIGNS TO UMSTEAD PARK.)
- Turn right at the stoplight onto Weston Parkway.
- Turn right onto Old Reedy Creek Road (at Diosynth).
- Continue past Diosynth, a house on the right, the water treatment plant and across a one-lane bridge.
- Park along the road where you'll see a bunch of cars (before the road crosses over I-40). This road dead-ends into the park, so there is very little traffic besides park visitors.
