1. BACARDI BACARDI is an approximately six year old male. He was rescued a couple of years ago from an owner that had him tied up outside for most of his life. He was adopted from NRGRR just over two years ago by a loving family but was recently returned due to his severe separation anxiety. For the past three months Bacardi has been evaluated by a club member to determine what type of environment could be provided to him where he could live a happy and healthy life. Bacardi is a handsome, happy and affectionate boy. His issues arise when he is left alone. To this point he absolutely cannot be crated. He will do everything in his power to escape even to the point of injuring himself. What has worked when he has to be left alone is a home which has a fenced in yard and doggy door. Even with that any interior doors must be left open as he will destroy them trying to get to the other side. He seems to be particularly sensitive to some noises and maybe even barometric changes. Ideally his new owner would be someone that has experience with this type of issue and the patience and understanding to tolerate his shortcomings. Perhaps a retired couple or someone that works from home would work best. Bacardi currently lives with six other dogs and gets along just fine with all of them. Don't know about cats or other small animals. He is a gentle and loving soul as long as he has human contact. He loves car rides and going on walks. He has been to several adoptathons and has not met a human that he didn't love. No doubt his issues are due to his not so great start in life.
2. TYNER

TYNER is a sweet, handsome red 3 year-old neutered male who loves to play and be with his humans.  He came in as a stray from a local shelter.  Tyner has great house manners, is housebroken, rides well in the car and gets along with all dogs and people.  He is a smart boy and responds well to praise.  Tyner needs a very special home! He has a manageable medical condition called Mega esophagus, which means he has an enlarged esophagus and therefore has trouble with food/water reaching his stomach. Often the food/water rests in his esophagus and tends to “dump” out if he jumps around or gets excited.  He has been very compliant and successful with an elevated feeding stance.  This condition does not slow him down one bit!  He’s always ready to play and is able to live a normal, active life.  A great home for Tyner would be an active one, without cats that has hardwood, tile or linoleum floors.  Tyner is a wonderful dog that will make a terrific pet and a great addition for that special person or family who is willing to give Tyner the extra care and loving home that he deserves!  See Tyner in action on TV: http://www.wral.com/news/local/video/5119669/

3. REESES

REESES is one of the seven “candy dogs” who came into the program when their owner could no longer care for them.  She spent most of her life outside with her six brothers and sisters and had little human contact and socialization.  She was HW+ and has now completed her treatment.  Reeses, an AKC purebred golden, is 57 lbs., has a pretty golden red coat and the most gorgeous green eyes that will melt your heart.  She turned 7 on March 7, but she is young at heart!  She loves to play fetch and run in the yard, take walks and will run up and down stairs and jump into a car.  She also loves her afternoon naps and quiet time.  Reeses has made tremendous strides from the very nervous and scared girl she was.  She started out afraid of everything, i.e. a leash, a car ride, common household sounds, sudden movements, even taking a treat scared her.  She will continue to need guidance and reassurance from a patient and caring owner as she adjusts to a new environment.  She follows her foster Mom around the house and will quietly sit and watch, but wants to be nearby.  She loves being hugged and petted, and this is very reassuring and comforting for her.  She is so happy with the simple pleasures in life, like carrying her beloved teddy bear around the house with her, chewing on a Nylabone, playing with a rope toy and realizing that treats are a wonderful thing!  She is completely housetrained and has never had an accident.  She has been left out alone for short periods of time and has perfect house manners.  Her foster family has yet to hear her bark.  She sleeps soundly through the night close to her foster parents.  Her safe place is the couch.  In unfamiliar surroundings, Reeses will head for the first couch she sees and make it her own.  Her new owners must be O.K. with having a designated dog couch for Reeses to “work from” as she adapts to her new home.  Reeses would be best suited to a quieter, less hectic environment.  While Reeses gets along fine with her golden foster brother, she would do best in a home without cats.  She is the sweetest, most gentle soul who is perfect for someone who wants a best friend and devoted partner.  To know Reeses is to love her.  She deserves to be adored for the rest of her life!

4. NAYLA

NAYLA is an extremely sweet Golden Retriever.  She is a nine year old who refuses to accept her age.  She loves taking walks and playing in the yard with sticks.  She is housetrained and knows the commands of site, down, come and shake paw.  Nayla loves belly rubs and cuddles.  She gets along well with other dogs and kids, however would do best in a home without cats.  Nayla would be a wonderful companion to any family and will quickly become your new best friend.

5. AARON

AARON is a 6 month-old playful and loving golden mix puppy.  He’s a very blonde male and a real cutie.  He is a happy and healthy little fellow and loves to swim.  He loves to run and chase the big dogs around in his foster’s fenced-in back yard.  Sometimes he runs around the yard all by himself.  He entertains himself with his toys and carries them all around the house.  Aaron will also retrieve anything else that gets left on the floor, and will display his find to anyone watching, proudly carrying various items, both large and small, in his mouth around the house-tail high and wagging. This makes his foster mom laugh.  He’s house trained and walks into his crate when its bedtime.  He’s been very good in the house when left alone with his 3 canine companions, but he’s content to go into his crate if asked.  Now though, his foster reports he doesn’t need to be crated and has been excellent if unattended in the house for an hour or so.  At night Aaron goes into his crate but it’s not closed and has been exceptional, not doing anything but sleeping.  He also likes to nap in his crate.  Aaron is a bit mouthy as puppies are, but not destructive and he’s easily redirected.  His foster thinks he will do well with a family that has older children and at least one other dog for him to play with.  Aaron likes his people but he adores his canine companions and looks to them for guidance.  He also lives with two cats and he barks at them occasionally, but he mostly wants to smell them.  At heart he is a gentle soul and his foster doesn’t worry that he’ll hurt them.  He’ll need basic obedience training and he is at the perfect age to get started. His foster mom is working with him on the leash and he is doing very well.  Aaron also has perfect car manners and rides quietly in the back.  Aaron is a bit shy with people until he gets to know them and likes to be in the middle of whatever is going on around him.  He came to us from the shelter so we don’t know his history before he came into our program.  Aaron has a big bark when he is excited but he doesn’t seem anxious or display any separation anxiety.  Aaron is a happy and healthy puppy and he’s ready to take that next step and find his forever home.  His foster mom thinks he will bring love, smiles and laughs to the special family that adopts him.

6. HEIDI

HEIDI is a beautiful red gold purebred girl of 6-7 years.  She would make a loving companion for a home with an individual, couple or family with older children.  Heidi would probably be happiest as an only dog.  She knows most commands, is totally housebroken and has great house manners.  Heidi will warn some dogs to stay away from her if she encounters them on walks, and would rather stay at home with her family than go to the dog park.  She can tolerate other dogs if introduced properly, but seems to like humans better.  If you are looking for a wonderful girl to love please meet Heidi.

7. SAVANNAH

SAVANNAH Hi!  My name is Savannah and my foster mom said it’s time for me to interview candidates for my new home.  She says that I have had a rough life and I deserve the absolute best home that I can find -- a home that will pamper me and treat me like a princess.  I don’t know what that means because how I was treated before is all I knew.  What I know now is that I love to be loved on, petted, bathed, touched, brushed, talked to, walked, and most of all, I love to eat good, healthy food.  Savannah here.  My foster mom said I could provide an update since things are going so well.  She says I am a perfect houseguest and most of my health issues are behind me.  Yea!  My ears and teeth are clean and sparkly.  I am starting to grow some fur back, my skin is pink and I eat everything else my brother and sister eat.  I get two cups of high quality fish and potato kibble twice a day and treats whenever I want.  I still get a little itchy so my foster mom gives me baths.  She says that I will feel better when fall comes.  Here’s what my foster mom thinks I need in my forever home: someone who will walk with me (I love to walk – she says I strut), either a cat-free home or a home with dog-savvy cats (what?...I was just saying hi in my own way), other dogs, kids and people or none at all.  I am easy that way.  And most of all, someone who will pet me and remind me how beautiful I am.

8. DAPHNE

DAPHNE is a beautiful 1.5 year old Golden with lots of puppy energy.  She responds to the call name “Sandy.”  Daphne loves playing in tall grass and chasing rabbits or squirrels so she has some prey instinct.  She is good with cats and dogs and well behaved although she can be a selective listener. Daphne is crate trained and housetrained.  We will update her description soon.

9. RITA

RITA is an adorable 4 1/2 month old golden mix.  She is doing wonderfully with her housetraining.  She is crate trained and sleeps in her crate in her fosters' bedroom at night without making a peep.  She gets along fantastically with her fosters' 3 dogs and, other than some curiosity, she is fine with their 4 cats.  Rita is extremely affectionate and loves to give kisses.  She is still quite submissive, so she will tuck her tail when you brush her or when you are petting her.  She doesn't chew inappropriately, but does love chewing on bones and playing with soft toys.  Rita loves to play fetch! She will chase the tennis ball and bring it right back for you to throw it again.  She has had a skin infection, probably caused by fleas and ticks biting her before our rescue saved her from the shelter.  It is almost completely healed up, but she will need to stay on medication for a couple more weeks.  Rita will make a wonderful companion to just about anyone.  She would be good with kids, she is good with adults, she loves other dogs and is good with cats.  She is active enough to keep up with an active family, but mellow enough to settle down in the evenings during quiet time.  We can't say enough good things about this wonderful girl!

LEXIE Lexie is a sweet golden, german shepard, lab mix. My husband and I found her at the ball field in the rain. We brought her home on May 1st. We have taken her to one vet visit and she has had all her yearly shots. The vet believes that she is about 1 year old by her teeth. She is playful and very energetic. She is house trained and sleeps all night. Lexie is very social and loves to be around other dogs and people. She will sit and shake. Lexie would make a great pet for someone who has the time to play with her and love her. She is also great with children. She has tons of patience with my three year old! If you are interested in knowing more about Lexie please contact me by e-mail during the day and by phone in the evenings. mandychalk52@hotmail.com

LEX A big gentle dog appearing to be a Lab of 2-3 years was picked up by Bladen County Animal Control in Elizabethtown, NC. He had what appeared to be a huge hotspot covering his entire rump. He was scheduled him for gassing but A Shelter Friend thought it was more like flea allergies and asked to have him released to them. He was take to the vet late yesterday. The vet says it is indeed flea-bite dermatitis. He tested HW negative. He will be vaccinated and neutered while they have him. Lex is a laid back and happy guy who loves to get attention from people. He gets along fine with other dogs and does not seem aggressively interested in cats.

BABE AND CHASE

FHGRR (Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue) has a sweet 10 year old male and female looking for a home together.  A wonderful look a like pair that are in now foster care due to a change in the owner's health.  They are doing well but would love a new permanent home with lots of affection where they will give it back to you with at least double the love!  Please visit their story on the FHGRR website and consider giving these sweet Goldens their forever home.

Babe and Chase at FHGRR

LIRA This beautiful large breed dog is approximately 2-3 years old and about 90 lbs. She was rescued from the Franklin County Shelter 5-14-09 after a 14 day stay which would have come to an end that morning if not rescued. Bathed and smelling clean, she is now looking for a forever home as she stays with her foster mom currently. She is spayed and has been given all of her shots and Frontline. She is cuddly and loving both with children and adults. She plays with other dogs well and takes trips to the dog park regularly.  She appreciates her soft bed immensely. Am unsure about her interest, if any, in cats. Rehoming fee requested to cover some of the rescue costs. Encourage a couple of visits to ensure a good match with her is chosen after vet references are checked. She is peaceful at night and enjoys her meals. She is intelligent and  highly food motivated. I encourage serious and caring inquiries. She deserves a family who will love and care for her as much as she will them.  Please contact Erika at 919-227-3056
SALLY Sally is now a 1 year old Golden Retriever. Her birth date is 4-16-08. Sally is a very friendly, mild-tempered dog. She has no potty accidents in the house and sleeps very well at night. She likes the comfort of her crate, and also enjoys having a dog bed to sleep on. Sally constantly craves attention. She loves to chew so chew toys are a must. She is much calmer when just adults are home and even listens better. She seems very confused and nervous when the children are at home. We feel she would be a perfect fit for a calm home with adults or older teenage children. She loves people and requires a lot of one on one attention. We really want Sally to be happy.
Sally loves to take walks and is very subservient toward other dogs while walking. She is very friendly with passing people on the sidewalk. We have a cat and she has no problem with the cat. She is a good dog looking for a new home. Please email John at jzawada@nc.rr.com if you are interested in meeting or adopting Sally.
BONO Bono: Such a bundle of "happy" ! This boy is eager to please and looking for his very own family to LOVE. Rescued from the local shelter, Bono needs someone to play with-human or canine. At about 6 months old he has some growing to do and some manners to learn. An investment now will pay big rewards later. Bono is a happy soul with a marshmellow personality.  he gets along with other dogs and all people that he meets. Bono requires a fenced yard and to live in the house with his people. What could be better in the winter than a cuddly, snuggly puppy to keep your feet warm? Bono is neutered and fully vetted. This boy is worth the effort to meet!  Please contact: Denyce Osmundson of InnerBanks Canine Rescue, email critter8@embarqmail.com or call 252-623-8769.  See more pics at this link: http://innerbanks.shutterfly.com/23
